The Road to 1 Bitcoin (Why You Don't Need a Map)

Dustin Williamson Road to 1 Bitcoin

Most people wait for the "one big idea" before they start anything meaningful.

That's why they're still waiting.

Hi, I'm Dustin, and I'm chasing 1 Bitcoin, a journey I started before I knew how I'd get there.

I've learned over the last few years the hard way that opportunities don't show up while you're planning. They show up when you're moving.

Even though the goal is about Bitcoin, which, in my opinion, is the best goal one can have (more on that later), this is not the only thing that matters on this journey. It's about choosing the flashlight over the map, action over analysis, and building something real one step at a time.

If you've been waiting for the perfect plan to start your thing, this one's for you.

The Challenge

Here's what I'm doing: creating content, building value, and documenting the journey until I earn 1 full Bitcoin from my work. That's roughly €100,000 at today's prices.

But let me be clear about the setup. I have a full-time job as a video editor. This isn't a "quit everything and go all in" story. This is a "build something meaningful while keeping the lights on" story.

The plan is simple: turn everything I earn outside of my 9 to 5 into Bitcoin.

That can be:

  • Freelance gigs (video editing, which is what I do for a living)
  • Digital products I create
  • Collaborations with brands that align with my values
  • Any other income stream that comes from my content and skills

I'm creating what I actually want to create. No chasing trends. No fake enthusiasm for products I don't believe in. Just authentic content that serves people while building toward my goal.

Sounds simple. It's not.

But here's what I've discovered: you're not just building toward 1 Bitcoin. You're building the person capable of earning 1 Bitcoin. Both compound.

Why Bitcoin?

You might be thinking: "Why not just say €100,000? Why Bitcoin?"

I'll give it to you straight: Bitcoin represents something our generation desperately needs: an escape hatch from a system that's failing us.

Houses are unaffordable. Traditional jobs don't build wealth. The old path of education → job → retirement isn't working. We're the first generation in decades expected to be worse off than our parents.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: our current money system is an experiment built on debt, not backed by anything anymore since we lost the gold standard. Your euros are just digital numbers that central banks can create out of thin air whenever they need to.

Bitcoin is the first and only hard money invented specifically for the purpose of being a monetary good. It's opt out money for people who want to opt out of a broken game.

And the reason why lies in the attributes it has: attributes that form a perfect store of value:

  • Fixed supply: No one can print more. Ever. Not even gold is as scarce.
  • Self custody: No bank required if you don't want one.
  • Secure: The whole point of cryptography.
  • Verifiable and neutral: Same rules whether you're broke or a billionaire.
  • Infinitely divisible: You can buy €10 worth or €10 million worth.
  • Completely portable: Unlike everything else.

You don't have to become a maximalist to see the asymmetry. It's the internet of money.

Flashlight, Not a Map

A line from Florian Bruce Boye hit me this week:

"Opportunities don't show up while you're thinking about them. They show up when you're moving."

Most people approach big goals with the "map mentality": "I'll plan the whole route, figure out every risk, and then I'll start." The problem? No one will ever have a complete map. That's why most never start.

I'm choosing the flashlight instead.

You don't need all the lights on to find your way home. You need enough light to see the next step. Take that step, and the one after it appears. That's the entire game.

Before I started the challenge, I didn't know:

  • There are so many people that resonate with what I'm doing and want to help
  • That strangers would just donate to my public address
  • That 21bitcoin, one of the biggest Bitcoin exchanges in Austria, would reach out to partner with me because they liked the challenge and what I'm building
  • I'd connect with creators I would never have met otherwise

None of that would've shown up on a map. It only revealed itself once I started walking.

This Isn't Just for "Crypto Bros"

Here's what I want to prove: Bitcoin isn't just for "finance bros" or "crypto nerds". There are a thousand ways to interact with it.

My path is content creation: making useful things that align with my principles because I want a life that compounds into health, wealth, and freedom.

Your path might be different. That's the point.

Bitcoin is a protocol, not a personality type.

But if you've been waiting for the full plan before you start, drop it. Pick up the flashlight.

Define your finite target. "0.1 BTC in 12 months" is better than "save more money." Clear targets create clear decisions.

Make the smallest move. Open an account with a reputable exchange like 21bitcoin (they're supporting my challenge because they believe in making Bitcoin accessible). Buy €10 of Bitcoin. Learn self custody later. Motion creates motivation.

The Road Ahead (For All of Us)

It's not only about Bitcoin. But Bitcoin definitely helps my goal to build something meaningful while staying true to myself. To choose action over analysis. To bet on myself when no one else will.

Bitcoin makes it concrete. A clear target. A real scoreboard. Daily momentum toward something that preserves value into the future.

I'm sharing this journey because maybe it sparks something in you too. We're in Chapter 1: The first 2000 followers. You'll find me on Instagram, Tiktok , and Youtube. If you're more of a numbers person, check my Live-Wallet-Tracker for the exact status.
